Join Yoga Teacher and professional seamstress Scarlett Mortimer in a mindful mending workshop this Spring to refresh and revitalize your practice. A therapeutic gathering where participants use decorative techniques to repair their clothes and textiles in our down-to-earth community.
After a grounding opening meditation, you will be utilising a range of traditional stitching techniques to mend, repair and reinforce fabrics. These practices create work in geometric shapes and patterns by using accessible larger stitches and thicker thread that don’t require fine sewing skills - ideal for mending items such as denim, heavy cottons, and other woven items.
This mending practice gives new life to clothing, promotes sustainable textile use and brings awareness to our own personal environmental impact. With this in mind, students can keep their sample pieces or incorporate them into a group quilt project. The afternoon is perfect for total beginners, especially those interested in sustainable, slow fashion.
By communing in creativity we embrace the rich tapestry of yoga and its teachings, in fact sutra (ancient Indian texts) directly translates to ‘threads’. It's an opportunity for each of us as an individual to become sewn to others in the room through the calming, flow-state rhythm of crafting and chatting. Where repetition and pattern-work elevates focus and mindfulness. A space to weave stories and tales together as we collectively sink into a meditative state with tea and treats - to yoga, to ‘unite’.
Like your crafts, leave different to when you started, the joy of community tapestry woven - turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.
